Worth it for the disk.

I bought this for the disk which contains the contracts. This disk is DRM'ed, so you cannot work with the documents in any way. I still found it worthwhile to be able to read the text of the documents. The text of the book is less valuable to me, although it may be useful to some.

About the Author

Rosemary Kayess is the Director of the Human Rights and Disability Project at the Australian Human Rights Centre and Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales where she teaches human rights law and discrimination law. She is also a Senior Research Fellow with the Social Policy Research Centre at the University of New South Wales in their Disability and Mental Health Research Programme.

Janet E Lord is an international human rights lawyer who specializes in international disability law and policy and disability inclusive development for marginalized groups. She is currently Senior Fellow for Human Rights and Inclusive Development at the Burton Blatt Institute, Syracuse University. She is also Senior Research Associate at the Harvard Law School Project on Disability and holds adjunct appointments at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law and the American University, Washington College of Law.

About the Author
Irving Bigio is Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering at Boston University. His research activities address the interactions of light with cellular and tissue structures on the microscopic and mesoscopic scales. He pioneered methods of elastic scattering spectroscopy and has developed practical diagnostic and sensing applications that have been demonstrated in large clinical studies. He has co-authored over 200 scientific publications and is an inventor on nine patents.

Sergio Fantini is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University. His research interests in biomedical optics are in the area of diffuse spectroscopy and imaging of biological tissue. He has contributed to the development of quantitative frequency-domain methods for absolute tissue oximetry, spectral imaging approaches to optical mammography, and the assessment of cerebral hemodynamics in the human brain. He has co-authored about 200 scientific publications and is an inventor on ten patents.

Great reading comprehension

Four multiple choices for a short story and different focus on each week. My son who is advanced reader in his first grade used it for his reading comprehension daily. Rather than doing one a day, he does three stories each day that deepens his understanding. Compare to Kumon reading program, this is a good choice that you don't need to pay $110 monthly.

I like this reading comprehension, because it gives you tips on how to explain the concepts of critical thinking to kids. It also gives a wide variety of stories, to encourage thinking and the application of knowledge. The answers are not straight word either, these require reading between the lines. ALL I THESE THINGS I LOVE But dang too much multiple choice. My son's school requires that the kids write complete sentences for comprehension. The awesome version of this includes 2 questions they have to answer by them selves. All in all good summer practice almost finished with it.

Excellent addition to table tennis library

This book talks about tactics a player can utilize in a generic way, and against different styles. It also provides many examples that explain when a given stroke should be used and how. Having learned tactics throughout my journey I was not surprised by the information. Most of it is acquired through experience. Generally, the more experienced the player, the deeper is his tactical understanding. The good part is the fact that you can now refer to the material yourself or refer other players to a specific chapter for an easy in-depth explanation that covers all sorts of combinations. Experience wise, Larry has decades of it both in terms of playing and coaching. So he definitely has a lot to share.

As I have mentioned before, the information in the book is vast and remembering it all will be hard to do. So I would warn that players should not read it to remember it. Its important to read the book to understand it! This is the purpose of the book. To give enough knowledge so that the player can come up with his own ideas on what the player should do next, or what a given opportunity presents.

What did I like the most in the book? Well, for me, I found Larry's stories of his coaching experience within a match invaluable. There are many times when you play someone and think you're doing great, until bam, the opponent's coach gives his player some advice and nothing goes your way anymore. I always wanted to find out - what did the coach tell him that the tempo of the match totally changed. In this regards, Larry provides incredible amounts of information on coaching his students to victory.

Larry's book might be a simple novelty item for professional players, but that is only because the pros are already familiar with the topics in the book. But for mere mortal amateurs like myself, beginner, intermediate and advance players alike, this book is surely a must have.

My best table tennis purchase so far

I bought this book when I was out of the game for a few month because of injury, so I really had time to read and think about what I read.

Immediately after my return my rating went up from 1700 USATT to solid mid 18xx and I truly believe it's because of this book. Several people in my club suspected that I wasn't out because of injury but went away to some sort of table tennis school for intensive training - that much of a difference my game was just because of this book.

There is lot's of material and it's hard to remember it all during the game, but I keep rereading it, practicing one or two aspects at a time and every time I spend time rereading the book I play better because I play smarter.

Definitely a better purchase then yet another "tenergy" or new blade you might be tempted to try just because they are new and shiny and the advertisement promises they will raise your game to the next level. New equipment wont, this book definitely will.

Great book for any level table tennis player

This book contains a wealth of knowledge offered by Mr. Hodges on how to improve your game tactically and strategically. What you will not find in this book is how to properly execute a forehand loop, or a reverse pendulum serve, but rather what to do with these tools in a game once you have already developed them. There is also a whole chapter on reading and understanding spin which I found extremely useful. I would say this book is mostly aimed at beginner and intermediate players, but advanced players could no doubt benefit from the tactical insight offered by Mr. Hodges in this book.

Repetitious and irrelevant

I'm an experienced Network Engineer. Recently I got into Nexus switches and decided I'd add CCNA DC to my long list of alphabet soup. The online videos I have access to were all pretty much short on details and can only be described as quick overview. So I looked for a book. At the time this was pretty much the only one for the 916 exam (911 looks like a light weight repeat of CCNA R/S with Nexus as the tool).

First, let's note the authors. There are 5 of them. And it shows. On some pages it seems that 5 different people wrote something, and they just pasted it all one after another on that same page, in no particular order. There are chapters that go on forever on topics that are completely unrelated to the Exam Topics found on the Cisco web site. For example, it describes in detail Soft Zoning and compares it to Hard Zoning. In the end, Cisco doesn't touch Soft Zoning, and never has for the 14 years their product has been on the market. Not only that, the amount of space they use up in the book on this could have been cut down from a couple pages to just a few sentences (Soft zoning is like DNS not giving an initiator name resolution, and Hard Zoning is like an ACL)

In fact, as another reviewer noted, it appears that much of the book is Cisco Documentation has been copied and pasted into a book and printed out. I cannot tell you how many times I've read the same passages over again in the same chapter, let alone different chapters.

SInce this is about the only book in town, you're stuck. The way I've been dealing with it is keeping the Exam Topics page handy as I read the thing front to back. It's a lot of pages, but as I hit something I don't understand, or feel is not relevant, I check the Exam Topics and ask myself is there any where this could fit? If not, skip it. For example it talks about Cisco Prime. This is a product Cisco sells. It might fit in section 6.0 DC Network Services, but for the fact that is more about network services found on the hardware this test examines, and not separately purchased software products. And then the fact that that section is worth 1% of your score on the exam, and yeah, I'll skip those 20 pages.

When I skip something I might go find the marketing material on the Cisco Youtube channel or their site. I do geek out on this stuff, but not enough to read through poorly cut and pasted passages from the Cisco Documentation CD.

Your other good resrouce is Cisco's Techwise TV. A lot of marketing material, but for CCNA, that is a good place to start. For example there was a 100 page chapter on MDS product line in the book. It dug into all this minutiae of packet forwarding decisions in the switch. Techwise TV had the lead product manager for MDS explain it in 10 minutes 100 times more clearly, without repeating himself 5 times (remember, there are 5 authors listed on this book).

The other thing to note about the authors are their CCIE numbers. These guys have been around a LONG time. And again, it shows in the book. They spend an outrageous amount of time reviewing computing history, and very little in comparison discussing current technology.

I'm ordering the Sybex book, that wasn't available when I got this one. I usually trust the Cisco Press books better, but they have really let me down this time. I'll update the review when I can after I read: CCNA Data Center: Introducing Cisco Data Center Technologies Study Guide: Exam 640-916

Terrible for actually trying to study for the CCNA. Unfocused and much of it is copy and pasted straight from Cisco's documentation, which is available free.

Daniel P. Horan, O.F.M., a Franciscan friar of Holy Name Province, has taught in the department of religious studies at Siena College near Albany, New York. He currently serves on the board of directors of the International Thomas Merton Society and has published more than thirty articles and book chapters. Dating God: Live and Love in the Way of St. Francis

As a leadership consultant I found this book to be immensely rewarding to read. As we are seeing world wide, there is a shift in leadership relationships. For far too long we have looked at leaders as good parents-which has resulted in an unhealthy dependency on the part of followers. In addition, when the good parent does not "protect" us from the unpredictability of life, we grow angry and often denigrate that same person we had previously admired. This book helps to articulate a relationship with God that is truly one where we bring our true and adult self into relationship with God. Through this book we begin to see a relationship with God in which our voice is important. God does not only command us to be- he also lovingly listens to us as we search for the fullest expression of our true self in relationship with others. I am thankful for this book on many levels, but most importantly this book provides a beautiful description of a rich, mutually respectful, mutually loving relationship with God. One that is becoming more necessary as the world begins to recognize the interdependency of each person and each country throughout the world.

Hermitage experience

Daniel P. Horan, O.F.M., is a Franciscan Friar who has published numerous articles, led retreats, and lectured across the U.S. and Europe. In Dating God he compares the human experience of establishing a close relationship with another person to that of developing greater knowledge and understanding of our Creator. Dating God is divided into eight chapters consisting of reflections on Franciscan spirituality, personal observations, a list of points to remember and reflection questions.

For example, in the "Making a Date with God" chapter, Horan discusses solitude in the context of a hermitage experience he shared with his classmates while in the novitiate. The event took place in eastern Pennsylvania in the middle of winter. For 10 days, the novices would spend 23 hours a day in solitude, praying, reading in their cells, or walking in the woods. Each evening they spent an hour together, attending Mass and eating dinner. The retreat was designed to allow the novices to set aside time and space for solitude with God as their companion.

Horan admits that as an extrovert he found the prospect scary. His first reaction was one of isolation that reminded him of solitary confinement or the childhood punishment of "time out." He recalls the old question of a tree falling in the forest when no one was around to hear--did it fall? At the hermitage, with no Facebook or Twitter, no one to speak to him, did he actually exist?

Initially Horan tried to distract himself with reading, then walking in the woods where, he writes, he rediscovered the connections within all of God's creation. The experience was similar to that of seeing on old friend after a long separation. This friend was God, and for Horan, it seemed like a date. Though he felt awkward at first, he soon realized that his presence was all that God desired. He writes of a form of transcendence that occurred as he walked among and as part of creation with his Creator. Reflection questions for this chapter address the difference between being lonely and being alone; finding time for silence and solitude; and creating a hermitage experience amid the demands of ordinary life.

Fantastic Read

This book is great for anyone looking to bring new life into their relationship with God. While the metaphor of "dating" God would seem strange at first, Horan connects all the dots and gives us a great way to understand our relationship with God. I especially enjoyed all the stories from the lives of Franciscan saints and stories from the author's own life. Horan weaves these stories together seamlessly, creating a cohesive and easy read for all to enjoy. As a Campus Minister at a Franciscan University, I look forward to sharing this book with my students and helping them understand their own relationship with God and with others.

About the Author
Kay Kenyon is the author of eleven science fiction and fantasy novels, including A Thousand Perfect Things. She is the author of the critically acclaimed science fiction quartet, The Entire and The Rose. Bright of the Sky was among PW's top 150 books of 2007. A different reality

A young woman wanting to fight convention and follow her heart is lead by magic from the safety of her scientific world of Anglica to Bharata the magically infused country where nothing is as it seems. Betrayal, mystery, love, sacrifice, science and magic all collide in this refreshing read.

I felt some shades of "Heart of Darkness" when I first read the synopsis which threw me back to my high school English classes. But this was so much easier to read. This book was fabulous on several levels. I really enjoyed the mental thought processes that were so well defined. Watching the development of the main character Tori, you experience a significant paradigm shift, from a curious, but unaware young woman, to a woman who looks past the things that are expected of her, to what she can become when she allows herself to be free. The identities of the two nations seem to be an over exaggeration of the basic flaws in different cultures. This allows the reader to consider things from a different perspective. The lotus flowers effect that illustrate different realities and how they effect you is ingenious. So many times you wonder what would have happened if...
I would highly recommend this read to anyone.

Essentially this reads as a treatise on the destructive nature of colonialism and the societal generalizations and stereotypes

In an unusual story, Kay Kenyon has written an alternative history that finds two countries at the center of this universe. The first is Anglica or England that is very comfortable for a western reader, and while some aspects of society are overly stereotypical, it is easily recognizable as a country that is based in science and logic, with spiritual elements being consigned to backrooms if not entirely scorned in society. The second country is Bharata, most closely related to India, and is a country where the spiritual and the magical are not only the norm, but are wholly accepted and proof of the why is not necessary. Again, some elements are also overly stereotypical, and the author chooses to integrate words into the text of the Bharata side of the story in a mix of phonetic and actual spelling or using a phrase on top of its English equivalent which made for some ponderous moments and could cause confusion.

This is most importantly the story of Astoria (Tori) Harding, a Victorian-era woman who pays little mind to societal conventions for women of her time. She has a disability, and is also determined to make her mark in the scientific community as a botanist. Her dream is to follow her grandfather's belief that there is a point at which the scientific and logical can and do exist and thrive with the spiritual and magical. Off she goes to adventure in Bharata - and the story gets wings and just flies.

Kenyon has written an unusual tale, and presented a series of events that are guided or affected by the overly stylized descriptions of the countries in which she has set the action. Essentially this reads as a treatise on the destructive nature of colonialism and the societal generalizations and stereotypes that allowed those systems to take root. While the action and the story is very tied to Tori and her search, the surrounding elements, the inclusion of a mystery, the political intrigue and the varying levels of difficulties that Tori encounters as she travels or explains her beliefs all seem to fill the story with a more politic bent, pointing out mistakes from both sides.

While a beautifully written story that manages to provide plenty of questions for readers, the ending of the book felt rushed, where there were pacing irregularities in the earlier chapters that left many unanswered questions that were relevant to only this story: especially the lack of explanation about the multiple deaths. It was not a quick reading book, although it was engaging and entertaining, and I would be interested to see more from this author.

Magical alternate history

Kay Kenyon is renowned for her solid science fiction, and it's great fun to read this novel, which is much closer to fantasy than traditional sf. You can call it alternate history, or magical realism, perhaps. It's a rich re-imagining of the British Empire in India, with a healthy dash of Victorian feminism. Magic as science is a conceit that works beautifully, and illuminates a colorful and compelling cast of characters, all with the prose Kenyon is so well known for. A great treat of a book!
