Mindblowingly amazing book for first-timers to web development using Java

I've taken a few intro to web development using Java courses. I have even taken some Spring courses. No one was able to explain basic concepts of JSPs, servlets, controllers, beans, and server engines as well as Mr. Downey.

Despite having taken courses for this material, I was still lost trying to plug my way through all the different parts that make up a web project. This book clarified absolutely everything. I went from spending a whole week trying to debug a problem to what is now an hour or two max of troubleshooting. I went from being completely miserable and pissed at my job to having a blast of a good time.

I've actually also learned more about how Spring works, because now I fully understand all of the concepts that Spring is trying to replace/simplify/rework.

As far as I'm concerned, Tim Downey is a master at imparting knowledge through his writing, diagrams, and examples. All the information is organized and progresses in a logical, common-sense manner. So many other books skip over topics assuming the reader knows all about them, leaving people lost and unable to progress due to missing key pieces of information. With this book, I feel like I am receiving complete knowledge of all the topics.

I cannot recommend this book enough, at least to complete Java noobs trying to learn how to build a web site using Java.

First, excuse my English. I'm french speaking

Transmitting knowledge is an art that only exprienced teachers can do.
If you are a beginner, this book is for you. What i like the most of this book is the fact that the author is a experienced teacher who is aware of what newbies (like me)need to process new information.
The exercises after each chapters are very useful and that is the second reason why i bought this book (the first reason being the fact that the author is a teacher).

About the Author

����William E. Thompson was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was the first member of his family to receive a high school diploma.� He received his bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University, a master's degree from Missouri State University, and a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.� Professor Thompson has�authored and coauthored more than 30 articles in professional journals, including�several reprinted in sociology textbooks and readers.� He has coauthored a textbook on juvenile delinquency.� Thompson also is the author of The Glass House, a nonfiction account of his mother's two year battle with cancer and the lessons about life and living learned from her death and dying.

����Professor Thompson began his college teaching career at the University of Tulsa.� He spent the next ten years at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.� He is currently a professor of sociology and criminal justice and Director of Mayo College, a residential learning community for first-year students, at Texas A&M University - Commerce.� He has also taught in the British Studies Program at Kings College, University of London.� In 1993 Thompson received an Outstanding Teaching Award from the Texas Association of College Teachers, and in 1994 he won the Distinguished Faculty Award for Research and Teaching at Texas A&M University - Commerce.� For fun and relaxation Thompson plays the drums.

About the Author
Rick Roman has a Finance degree from Arizona State University, a long finance career, and was a founder of GiveAshare. The genesis of this life of finance and love for the stock market was a critical event in his childhood. As a kid, his parents helped him buy his first stock - Topps Chewing Gum - the perfect choice for an avid sports card collector and voracious gum-chewer. I am a retired Certified Financial Planner and I wanted to teach my 2 teen nieces about how to invest in stock. I wanted something simple, easy fun, with a workbook. This book is none of those things, it is not a workbook. This book doesn't really explain the stock market, how to select a stock, how stocks are traded. All the author wants you to do is buy 1 share of stock so the kids can hand a certificate on the wall. To learn about the market, your teens are better off watching "How to invest in stock" on U-Tube. Then they can practice investing with "virtual trading" with no money involved. That is what I am going to do. I returned the book. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Great way to teach kids about money and stocks!

This kit is a fun way to teach kids about money and stocks. The book is very colorful and easy to read, definitely not your ordinary paperback boring book that you can't get your kids to read. The book not only explains what it means to be a shareholder, but shows you! Because of this kit my son is so excited about the stock market and to "own" more companies (the kit came with a coupon for $10 off his next share of stock!) I would highly recommend the "I'm A Shareholder Kit" to anyone (young and old) to learn about the stock market, economics, managing money and investing.

About the Author

Jaan Valsiner�is Niels Bohr Professor of Cultural Psychology at Aalborg University, Denmark. He is the founding editor (1995) of the Sage journal, Culture & Psychology.� And of The Oxford Handbook of Culture and Psychology (2012). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Sciences� (Springer, from 2007). In 1995 he was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Prize in Germany for his interdisciplinary work on human development, and Senior Fulbright Lecturing Award in Brazil 1995-1997. He has been a visiting professor in Brazil, Japan, Australia, Estonia. Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.�

Wonderful clear arrangements, but missing the best!

I tend to find fault with most of these Vocal Selections books, and this one is no exception.

I love Hairspray, but unlike most people, I love the character roles songs. So when I bought this book, I was disappointed that it contained neither "Miss Baltimore Crabs", "Velma's Revenge" nor "Big Dollhouse." I was very disappointed that the arrangers of this book only decided to include the requisite "Lead" songs.

Hopefully they'll publish one later that includes these three songs. Until then I probably won't buy this one.

I bought this book for my daughter after she unwillingly returned her borrowed copy to the library. If you love the music of "Hairspray", you won't regret adding this to your collection of piano music.

You Can't Stop My Singing!

Even when I first saw the show when I was 13, I knew the music was infectious and hard to not bop my head to. THank goodness my mom got this for me; now I can warm up for a concert on all the songs I know and love... to annoy my sister with. lol
